Pregnancy Ultrasound Scanning FAQ
Are you insured?
Yes. I am fully insured for all of the services that I carry out. My insurance provider is ‘Protectivity’. I am happy to provide a copy of this upon request.
Is it as good as the vet does?
Yes. I use a high Vet standard Scanning device with clear imaging from 28 days of your pets gestation. The device that I have, and the training I have recieved to carry out pregnancy ultrasound scanning is of gold Staandard in the UK.
Is it the same as a human scan?
Pet scans are effectively the same as humans scans in that they utilise ultrasound to develop an images of any faetus present in utero.
Can the scan damage the pups?
Absolutely not. There is no risk with Ultrasound scanning to the pups or mother-to-be. The device itself is also very gentle when applied to the abdomen.
Do I get an image of the scan?
Yes. I am able to send copies of the scans via Whatsapp or email.
Can it be done at home?
Yes. I offer this as a mobile service. If you prefer, you are welcome to bring your dog to me for the scan. Most do prefer to have it done in their own home as the dogs are most comfortable there.
Do you need to shave my dog for the scan?
Sometimes dogs do require a minor shave to allow for the effectiveness of the scan. This will be assessed at the time of scanning and will only be done if necessary and with your consent as the owner. Shaving would be carried out with my own dog clippers.
Can my dog eat or drink beforehand?
Yes, your dog can eat and drink as normal for this type of scan.
Will the scan tell me how many puppies my dog will have?
No. The scans are a way of confirming pregnancy and seeing a litter present in utero. It is very difficult to identify the exact number of puppies in the litter as the scan can only show which puppies are in front of other potential puppies. As a qualified ultrasound sonographer for dogs, I can given you a rough idea of minimum number of puppies visible on the scan.
Are you police checked?
Yes. I have a current DBS check which I renew every year. A copy of this is available on request.
Microchipping FAQ
Have you been trained in microchipping?
Yes. I have completed my training in Microchip implantation for dogs, cats and rabbits. A copy of my certificate is available upon request.
Does it hurt my dog?
There is a small pin prick type discomfort for a split second which is similar to a vaccination. There is not lingering discomfort for your dog.
What information does the microchip carry?
The micropship will hold the dogs and owners details including breed, colour, sex, owner address and contact number. The data is stored on a national database which can be picked up with any chip scanner in the country. So wherever your dog is lost, he/she will be found with their microchip.
Do I have to microchip my dog?
In the UK now, it is law to have every dog microchipped from 8 weeks of age or before they leave the breeder/rescue etc.
Who would have the ability to read the chip if my dog was lost?
Anyone with access to a microchip scanner which includes all vet and rescue centres. Like myself, someone who is qualified to implant a microchip will also have a scanner.
If my dog was stolen, can the thief remove the info on the chip?
No. A thief would require a scanner and information to confirm that the dog is his to be able to change any details on the database.
Are you police checked?
Yes. I have a current DBS check which I renew every year. A copy of this is available on request.
